Pol Capt Surachart Thongyai of the Phuket City Police was informed of the incident at 5:55am.
Officers arrived at the bus terminal, the main hub in Phuket for buses to and from other provinces, and spoke with Ekawat Iadchuthong, who made the call to 191.
Mr Ekawat explained that the female tourist coming running up to him, telling him that a Thai man had just sexually assaulted her in the women’s bathroom near the back of the bus terminal.
The man had committed an indecent act and molested her, Mr Ekawat said. However, police did not clearly define the indecent act he committed.
The woman was in a hurry and she boarded a bus to travel to Surat Thani Province, where she was heading to Koh Pha-ngan, Mr Ekawat said.
The man accused of the sexual assault reportedly works for a bus company.
Phuket City Police Deputy Chiefs Pol Lt Col Ranturong Wutthiwong and Pol Lt Col Boonphob Thinbut, along with investigators were at the bus station today continuing their investigation.
Officers were speaking with potential witnesses, and said they were to check CCTV at the bus station.
