Police said the man, Michael, in his 30s, went to Bangla Rd in Patong with his British girlfriend Gemma last night. Later on that evening, a bar girl reportedly came to talk to the couple while they were drinking at a bar.
It appears Gemma got jealous, the couple fought, and returned to the hotel with Gemma demanding a separate room.
The row apparently plunged Michael into despair. He climbed out onto the balcony of the hotel and it appeared he was about to jump. Hotel staff promptly contacted police.
However, by the time officers arrived at the hotel, Michael was back in his room. Police brought no charges.
