Kritporn Butlo, 45, was apprehended by Phuket City Police at around 12:30am near the fair’s central stage area.
Officers found her in possession of nine fake government lottery tickets, B1,540 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of the counterfeit tickets, and a shoulder bag used to carry the tickets.
Police charged Ms Kritporn with using or claiming forged official documents, citing the fake lottery tickets as evidence of the crime.
She was taken to the Phuket City Police Station for questioning and to face charges, Phuket City Police confirmed.
The annual New Year fair at Saphan Hin, for decades called the ‘Red Cross Fair’, draws many thousands of people each night to enjoy the live entertainment and food and drink available, and to try their luck with the popular lottery draws, for which proceeds from go towards supporting community projects by the Phuket branch of the Red Cross Society of Thailand.
The fair, which began last Sunday night, continues through to next Monday (Jan 6).
