Pol Capt Kraisorn Boonprasop of the Thalang Police was informed of the accident, in Moo 1, Thepkrasattri, at about 9:55pm.

According to the preliminary investigation by police, Boonsung Puangyod, a 45-year-old resident of Moo 6, Srisoonthorn, was driving north in the left lane in his Isuzu D-Max Hi-Lander.

He was travelling behind Sitthiphong Kajkla, 47, of Moo 9, Wichit, driving his white Honda City car.

Mr Boonsung went to overtake Mr Sitthiphong, but as he pulled into the right lane, another car passed by quickly. Mr Boonsung braked heavily and swerved to avoid a collision with the passing car. However, he collided into Mr Sitthipong’s white Honda City.

From there, Mr Boonsung lost control of his pickup, which crossed the central reservation and struck two other vehicles: a converted white Isuzu D-Max pickup carrying pork cuts driven by Mr Sanchai Wangwiset, 27, from Takua Thung District, Phang Nga; and a grey Toyota Commuter passenger van carrying four tourists driven by Mr Monthon Kongson, 56, of Moo 6, Ratsada.

Mr Boonsung sustained injuries in the accident, police noted in their report, but did not describe the extent of his injuries.

Mr Sanchai and Mr Monthon bother suffered only light injuries, and the four tourists in the passenger van declined to be taken to hospital for examination.

Mr Boonsung was taken to Mission Hospital Phuket for treatment of his injuries.

Officers continuing their investigation into the accident asked for doctors to perform a blood alcohol test on Mr Boonsung, the police report confirmed.
