The ambassador told Gov Tri: “Phuket is a destination for many Germany tourists and they are happy when they stay in Phuket, but they face unfair prices for local transportation.”
The main complaint of Germany tourists, he said, is about the high tuk-tuk and taxi fares, especially at night. Some tourists reported paying as much as B500 from a restaurant to their hotel – a distance of no more than a kilometre.
The governor told him that the island’s transportation problems are being solved, and the Department of Land Transportation had been ordered to fix transport prices.
The ambassador also urged the governor to keep a close eye on water pollution after a German television show aired a report about polluted water leaking into the sea at Karon Beach.
