The Sri Lankan national, named by police as ‘Mr K. Piyaralala’, was arrested while working on a house extension project at Ao Kham Beach in Wichit on Wednesday (Oct 9).
Mr Piyaralala was charged with "being an alien working without permission," a violation of Thai labour laws.
After his arrest, authorities informed him of his rights, documented the arrest and handed him over to the investigation officer for legal proceedings.
In addition, legal action is being taken against the employer who hired Mr Piyaralala.
The employer is being charged under Section 9 of the Emergency Decree on the Management of Alien Employment B.E. 2561 for "hiring an alien to work without a permit" or "allowing an alien to work beyond the scope of his work permit".
Phuket Immigration in its report emphasised the importance of adhering to Sections 37 and 38 of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522, which require reporting of foreign residents’ accommodations.
The process aids in monitoring the presence of foreigners, ensuring public safety and fostering confidence among tourists visiting the province, which is a major international tourist destination, Phuket Immigration noted.
