Emergency home birth in Mai Khao, mother and baby safe

PHUKET: Rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation, more commonly known for responding to serious traffic accidents, were instead called on to assist with a far happier emergency early this morning, successfully delivering a baby girl at a home in Mai Khao today (Jan 30).

At 5:29am, rescue workers from the foundation’s Muang Mai branch received a report of a woman experiencing sudden labour pains at her residence in Mai Khao The team immediately rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, rescue workers found a 23-year-old Myanmar woman in active labour. Due to the urgency of the situation, the team made the decision to perform an emergency delivery at the home.

The delivery was completed safely, with a baby girl born without complications. Both the mother and child were reported to be in good health. The mother later named her daughter ‘Butr Nang’, meaning ‘Nang’s daughter’.

Following the successful delivery, the mother and newborn were transported to Thalang Hospital for medical examination and continued observation.

Rescue workers said the incident was a welcome change from their usual duties and highlighted the importance of emergency response teams being prepared for all types of situations, including childbirth emergencies.
