Tha Chatchai Police were notified of the fatal accident at about 8am. The crash occurred on the outbound lanes of Thepkrasattri Rd, approximately 100 metres north of the old airport intersection in Mai Khao.

Pol Lt Apisit Petchchawang, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Tha Chatchai Police Station, responded to the scene along with officers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation.

At the scene, police found the body of Hasan Tangam, 78, lying beside his Honda Wave motorcycle. Also present was a Hino truck bearing Krabi licence plates, driven by Prawit Rodthong, 34.

According to the initial police investigation, Mr Prawit told officers that he had been driving normally when the motorcycle ridden by Mr Hasan struck the rear of a minibus travelling ahead.

The impact reportedly caused Mr Hasan to lose control of his motorcycle and fall into the path of the truck, where he was run over by one of its wheels.

Mr Prawit said he became aware that an accident had occurred behind his vehicle and immediately stopped to investigate, finding the motorcyclist deceased at the scene.

Investigating officers documented the scene and gathered evidence. A forensic examination was carried out in conjunction with doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Mr Hasan’s body was subsequently transferred to Thalang Hospital while police contact relatives and continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police have not yet determined responsibility for the collision, with the investigation ongoing, as the minivan that Mr Hasan reportedly struck was not stopped at the scene.
