Khlong Thom Police were notified at 2:15pm by Khlong Thom Hospital that two people had succumbed to severe injuries sustained in the crash on Phetkasem Rd, Moo 9, in front of Khlong Thom Ratsarangsarn School in Khlong Thom Tai.
Police identified the driver as Sripat Patkor, 75, who was travelling in a Toyota Fortuner bearing Phuket licence plates. His wife, Ms Sookjai, 68, was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Thai news reports noted that the two were husband and wife and were on their way to see a doctor at Songkhla Nakarinwirot Hospital in Hat Yai, Songkhla, when the accident occurred.
According to the police report, the SUV crashed into a large electric pole at the school’s guard post, causing it to break and fall. A smaller electric pole was also damaged, along with the guardhouse roof and two CCTV cameras.
Rescue workers from the Wat Khlong Thom rescue team responded to the scene and found both occupants with serious injuries. They were transported to Khlong Thom Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
The SUV sustained heavy damage in the collision, while the damaged poles belong to the Provincial Electricity Authority.
Investigating officer Pol Lt Siam Suan-In documented the scene, including photographs and a site map, and began questioning witnesses. He also travelled to the hospital as part of efforts to compile the case file.
Police have not yet confirmed the cause of the crash, and investigations are continuing.
