The crash occurred at about 3:15pm in front of a burger restaurant in Bang Ma Lao, Sakhu Police reported.
According to Sakhu Police, the three victims – all aged 14 – were riding a white-grey Honda Scoopy motorcycle in their lane when a grey Toyota Yaris Ativ sedan driven by a foreign national veered across a solid centre line into oncoming traffic and collided with them.
The injured girls were identified as Arleena Phetkaew, from Tambon Kalai, in Takua Thung District, Phang Nga; and Nachmiya Kotanan and Orawanya Sirak, both from Koh Kaew, Phuket. All three sustained serious injuries in the impact.
Police named the driver as Michael Gamal Nessim Mikhail, 30, an Egyptian national.
An initial investigation, including a review of CCTV footage, confirmed that the motorcycle had been travelling normally within its lane, which was clearly separated by a solid line, when the car crossed into the opposite lane.
The Egyptian man told police he was feeling dizzy and losing consciousness upon reaching the accident site, and acknowledged the accident was due to his own negligence.
Both vehicles involved – the motorcycle and the sedan – were damaged in the incident and have been taken as evidence.
Investigating officers noted that they will proceed with the case and related legal matters.
Pol Lt Col Kornpoom Pongpaiboon is leading the investigation under the supervision of station chief Pol Col Salan Santisasanakul.
