The 15-second video, posted on Facebook by user ‘YahHoo Sasinee’, shows the man appearing intoxicated as he danced among moving traffic at the busy Sai Yuan intersection in Rawai. The clip was shared widely, drawing a mix of jokes and concern from social media users, with many warning that the stunt posed a danger to both the man and other road users.
The person who posted the video said they recorded the scene while driving through the intersection and shared it to warn other motorists. The poster added that the man had been seen in the area on previous occasions, sometimes standing in the middle of the road and, in some instances, kicking passing vehicles with his feet.
Chalong Police Superintendent Pol Col Surasak Jaidee confirmed that the incident shown in the video was from a month ago.
“We arrested and detained him on the same day after receiving the report. He has been prosecuted for causing public disturbance and has been dealt with according to the law,” Pol Col Surasak said.
Police said the man was tested for drugs and found negative, but was intoxicated by alcohol at the time of the incident. Officers confirmed that no mental health issues were involved and that no one was injured during the incident.
Addressing claims that the man kicked at passing cars, Pol Col Surasak said any compensation for damage would require the affected vehicle owner to formally file a complaint.
“If a car was damaged, the owner must come forward and file a complaint in order to claim compensation. So far, no vehicle owner has reported damage,” he said.
Pol Col Surasak also played down the seriousness of the incident, noting that similar alcohol-fuelled public disturbances are reported across Phuket during this time of year.
On whether the man could face deportation, Pol Col Surasak said that decision rests with Immigration officials.
“The superintendent cannot answer that. The Immigration Bureau will be the agency to consider any further action regarding his immigration status,” he said.
Local residents have urged authorities to continue monitoring the area and take firm action to prevent similar incidents, warning that such behaviour could easily result in serious injury or death on the busy Rawai road network.
