The incident, shared by the Speednews Phuket Facebook page yesterday (Dec 26) has drawn widespread attention and criticism.
The 38-second clip captures the two men, visibly intoxicated, throwing punches at each other while a crowd of Thai and foreign onlookers cheered them on. Despite the chaotic scene, no one intervened to stop the fight, which eventually ended with the combatants walking away from each other.
The video was shared with a caption reading, “They were already punching each other. They were drunk and excited. Boxing is better than sobering up.”
The footage quickly garnered hundreds of comments, with reactions ranging from amusement to concern. Some commenters joked about the scene, saying, “This is why they come to Thailand, to learn Muay Thai,” while others criticised the lack of intervention, stating, “Why didn’t anyone stop them? Even if they aren’t Thai, there should be guards in the area to maintain order.”
Soi Bangla, the popular nightlife hub in Patong known for its vibrant atmosphere, has seen such incidents like this raising concerns about public safety and the behaviour of tourists.
Authorities have yet to comment on whether any action will be taken regarding the fight.
As the clip continues to circulate online, many are calling for stricter measures to ensure the safety and decorum of visitors in the area.
