Kasidit Montreepanich, 26, and two unidentified friends entered a courtroom on the eighth floor of the Criminal Court about 10am to listen to the trial of another friend charged with a drug offence.
A security guard inside the courtroom noticed the three men appeared to be drunk and alerted court officials to escort them from the premises. The men became "very excitable", reports said.
Pol Lt Songkran Srisook tried to calm them down and security officers escorted them from the room.
Kasidit was angry and yelled profanities at the officials. He then punched Pol Lt Songkran in the jaw while being escorted on the second floor, and then fled through the court’s entrance gate.
Security officers chased Kasidit and were able to capture him about one kilometre from the court. His two friends escaped through the back gate of the court.
Police searched Kasidit and found a .45 bullet in his trouser pocket. He was then placed in a court cell. A urine test proved positive for alcohol and drugs.
Police said Kasidit had shown contempt for the court's authority within the court premises, and therefore the judge could sentence him immediately.
The judge sentenced him to five months in prison.
