The crash occurred at about 5am on Sunday (July 5) at the U-turn near the Makro Thalang branch on the inbound side of Thepkrasattri Rd in Srisoonthorn.

Pol Lt Col Kriangkrai Daokrajai, who was on criminal and traffic investigation duty at Thalang Police Station, responded after receiving a report from the station’s radio centre.

At the scene, officers found 23 orange traffic barriers scattered across the road after being struck by a vehicle. The vehicle involved had already left the scene, but police recovered its licence plate.

Traffic patrol officers were called in to manage traffic while the Phuket Highways Office was notified. The agency later confirmed that each damaged barrier was valued at B3,900, bringing the total damage to B89,700. The Highways Office has begun coordinating compensation through the driver’s insurance company.

Investigators documented the scene and used the recovered licence plate to identify the vehicle’s registered owner.

Police subsequently confirmed that the registered owner, identified only as ’Mr A’, 47, was the driver responsible for the crash and asked him to report to investigators.

Mr A met with police on Monday (July 6), where he was charged with damaging government property by crashing his vehicle into the barriers.

He was also charged with leaving the scene after causing property damage without stopping to provide assistance as required by law.

Police reported that Mr A confessed to the offences, but made no mention of whether Mr A was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or any other substances or suspected of speeding at the time of the incident.

Apparently, according to police, the case is continuing in accordance with legal procedures.
