Phuket City Police were informed of the truck blocking traffic on Thepkrasattri Rd northbound at about 3:10pm.
Police arrived to find the truck trailer blocking all traffic northbound in front of the entrance to the main SuperCheap store in Moo 6, Ratsada.
The driver, Jiradet Sae-Heng, 25, explained that he was delivering goods from Chonburi to the SuperCheap store.
He was using GPS to navigate to the store when he entered the wrong street. Realising his mistake, he tried backing the truck out of the street onto the main road.
However, the trailer clipped the central reservation and jackknifed and ended up tipped up on one side. He was unable to correct his error.
Officers coordinated a crane truck to render assistance, an operation that took more than an hour ‒ leaving northbound traffic in front of the SuperCheap store unable to pass.
Officials closed the northbound lanes and allowed northbound vehicles to pass the site by using the lanes on the opposite side of the road.
Police confirmed that Mr Jiradet was issued a traffic ticket for causing the obstruction. However, the exact charge was not confirmed.
