The camp is built in terraces up the hillside and the fire broke out on the lowest level, spreading fast through the wood-and-tin structures.
At first, workers tried to put out the flames but, realising the blaze was getting out of hand, they called for the professionals, who took more than an hour bringing flames under control.
The cause of the fire was suspected to be a short circuit in one of the shanties. No one was hurt. This was the third work camp fire in Phuket in two weeks. For earlier stories see here and here.
