The operation was carried out at around 2.30pm on Sunday (June 15) under the direction of Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, said a brief report posted by Thalang District Office.
Thalang District Chief Siwat Rawangkun and Chief Administrative Officer (Palad) Wisut Romin, oversaw the operation and Thalang District officials carried out the raid, the report said.
However, among the photos was a placard marked ‘DOPA S.W.A.T.’, indicating that the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) ‘Special Weapons and Tactics’ unit (SWAT) were involved in carrying out the raid.
In all, five Thai nationals and three foreign workers allegedly involved in playing the card game ‘dummy’ and betting illegally were detained, the Thalang District Office confirmed
All eight suspects were handed over to Thalang Police Station for further legal proceedings, Thalang District Office assured.
