The dead mammal was discovered by beachgoers who notified Le Phang and Layan Beach lifeguards and members of the Bang Tao Jet Ski Group who then moved the carcass away from the popular beach area.
The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and the Sirithar Marine Animal Rescue Center were then contacted who said they would send representatives tomorrow to inspect the carcass and determine the exact cause of death.
They advised to bury the dead dolphin in a safe space until they are able to visit and conduct the inspection.
Lifeguards revealed the mammal weighed over 100 kilogrammes although were unable to determine its species.
The discovery comes a day after a large dugong carcass was discovered floating off the coast of Phuket in the waters near the Tha Ton Do fishing community in Mai Khao on Friday (Oct 18).
No visible wounds were found on the carcass, but an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, officers from the Phuket Marine Biological Centre confirmed.
