The main discussion was regarding the current budgets for each province as well as the budgets set for 2015.
Deputy PM MR Pridiyathorn said that he was satisfied with the overall work of each governor. He said that the governors have done a great job especially in boosting the economy, so much so that they can propose for more money this coming financial year.
After looking through the yearly report, Deputy PM MR Pridiyathorn explained that the provinces are still facing a shortage of construction companies.
Deputy PM MR Pridiyathorn said the issue concerning child labour seems to be under control and they won't hear from foreign countries regarding this issue.
The ongoing problem of foreigners working illegally without a work permit, is being enforced daily by immigration and police.
The Damrongtham complaints centre is great and it proves to assist and solve many problems before cases are handed to the governor office.
The main problem within the five provinces is regarding the prices of rubber plummeting due to the drop in crude oil around the world.
Deputy PM MR Pridiyathorn explained that to solve the rubber problem, they have introduced farmers to grow plants and vegetables along the rubber trees in the plantation. Farmers can grow vegetables inside the rubber plantation and sell to local markets and restaurants in hotels.
With regards to roads, Deputy PM MR Pridiyathorn explained that they would like to see major roads develop into four lanes, such as the one from Sarasin bridge to Phang Nga, as well as the road leading from Surat Thani to Ranong.
Deputy PM MR Pridiyathorn explained that he would like the Phuket light-rail project to serve popular beaches on the island.
The plan was to originally to build one rail carrying passengers from the north to the south from Tha Noon in Phang Nga to Phuket Old Town.
However, after reviewing the budget that’s left, they might have enough to add an additional rail that takes passengers coming from the beach to Phuket Town, as well as from Phuket Town to the beach to boost tourism.
Deputy PM MR Pridiyathorn also stressed the important of keeping the plan to build the yacht pier at Ao Makham and said, “We have to keep up with international levels on marine tourism and build a better and more modern pier. This is not just for yachts, but also for cruise piers in the future.
“If we have a more modern pier, it will encourage tourists to come to our city via yachts and cruises.”
