The crash occurred at the Old Airport Intersection (Baan Boran) in Moo 1, Mai Khao, at around 5am.

Soon to arrive at the scene were emergency teams from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation and the Mai Khao Tambon Administrative Organisation (OrBorTor) Rescue Unit arrived, along with emergency responders from Thalang Hospital.

Officers from Tha Chatchai Police Station also arrived to find a six-wheeled ‘Mermaid Logistics’ delivery truck, registered in Khon Kaen, with heavy damage to its front.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Wittawat Khaotong, from Surat Thani, was trapped inside the crushed cab.

Rescue workers used cutting equipment for over 10 minutes to free him.

Mr Wittawat suffered bruising to his left eye and right leg, and injuries to his upper body. He remained conscious throughout the rescue and was transported to Thalang Hospital after receiving initial treatment.

A passenger in the truck, 19-year-old Aphichat Khansuk, had been pulled from the vehicle earlier. He sustained a 10-15cm head laceration and pain in his right leg. He was reported to be conscious and also taken to Thalang Hospital.

The other vehicle involved, another six-wheeled truck, registered in Bangkok, suffered rear-end damage. No further injuries were reported from that vehicle.

Police believe the crash occurred after the delivery driver fell asleep while driving, though police noted that their investigation into the crash was ongoing.
