Date set for Sakhu Trail Beach Run

RUNNING: A date has been confirmed for the inaugural “Sakhu Trail Beach Run” which aims to provide participants a challenging workout while promoting the natural beauty of the local area.

The event will see athletes take on a 10.5 kilometre route through Sirinath National Park in the north west of the island on Sunday, Apr 19, starting at Nai Thon Beach Park and ending at Ching Pla Market at Nai Yang Beach.

The route is a combination of road, trail and beach through local communities and stunning natural environment, which is suitable for beginners and professional runners alike, race organisers said at an official press conference on Sunday (Feb 15).

Trun Panyawai, director of Sakku District Administration Organisation, oversaw the press conference and was joined by: Salan Santisasankul, head of Sakhu Police Station; Sumeth Suvarnarat, deputy of Saku District Administrative Organisation; Papawin Hang, head of Sirinath National Park; Tinan Thong, champion of the Amazing Thailand Marathon 2025, in addition to selected government officials and representatives from various public and private sctor organisations.

Mr Trun explained that the race is targeting a total of 1,800 participants and is divided into six separate age specific groups for male and female athletes. The top three finishers in each category will receive a trophy and cash prize, while all participants will receive commemorative T-shirts and medals.

“It is not too difficult a trail, meaning it is accessible for all levels of fitness,” explained Mr Trun. “The stunning route offers participants an opportunity to experience nature up close, taking in nature trails, vibrant local communities and beautiful white sand beaches.

“It is an ideal opportunity to reaffirm the standing of Sakhu as one of the important ‘lungs’ of Phuket province as its possesses some of the best quality air on the island, perfect for physical pursuits like this,” he added.

The race will take place between 6:15am and 9:15am and close collaboration between officials from Sirinath National Park, Sakhu District Police Station and local agencies will ensure the highest standards of safety are provided for participants at all times, explained Mr Trun.

“The hope is that the event can prove to be a big success so as to become a regular landmark running occasion in Phuket, which can help promote the local region while boosting its economy,” Mr Trun concluded.

Applicants from outside of Phuket can apply for a 50% discount on selected accommodation options for the dates of Apr 18–20 coinciding with the race.
