Remember that quirky little shop, back in your hometown, overflowing with new treasures to discover with each visit? Some days a set of kitsch wall ducks at the bottom of a basket, or perhaps some crystals discarded from an unused chandelier. Digging deeper you might even have been lucky to find an old tie-dyed throw rug, still recovering from the 70’s, with just a hint of patchouli and sandalwood lingering in the weave.
With such finds being so rare in Phuket, the options for unique, retro, original pieces can often be quite limited. Or fabulously expensive! Which leads many to look within, to their own resources and resourcefulness for expressing their taste and creativity. In homes all over the island, people are sewing their own clothes, painting bookcases and dyeing tablecloths into multi-colored brilliance. And the real beauty of this is that in 20 years time, these pieces of handmade original art/craft will be the very thing that someone, rather like yourself, will be overjoyed to discover. So get yourselves to Liven up Your Linen! – A tie dye workshop on February 28, 1 – 4pm in Rawai. For further information, contact Kez at oasisedphuket.com or call 0849462171
