Tourist Police arrested the man in Soi Rommanee at about 3:50pm yesterday (Feb 6).
The man was named by police only as “Mr Chang Ding”, 31, who officers said was carrying an identity card confirming that he was not a Thai national.
The man was taken to Phuket City Police Station and charged with with working without a work permit and acting as a tour guide without obtaining a tour guide license as required under Section 49 and Section 86 of the Tourism Business and Tour Guides Act
The arrest follows the Tourist Police launching a campaign against illegal operators in the tourism industry, with special focus on illegal tour guides, police reported.
Police are accepting tip-offs, police added in their report. Tourist Police can be contacted by calling their hotline 1155.
