Winai Sae-ew, Village Headman of Moo 4, Mai Khao, inspected the beach yesterday afternoon (Mar 31).
Mr Wniai explained that krill had been found washed ashore along four to five kilometres of the beach.
Some people were found collecting krill and washing them with seawater, others were more concerned whether the phenomenon indicated an impending natural disaster, Mr Winai said.
Also of concern was the colour of the krill that washed ashore, Mr Winai noted.
“Krill shrimp normally look pinkish-red, but the millions of krill that washed up on Mai Khao Beach are purple in colour,” he said.
“It is strange as well, and I had never seen this before. I want the relevant officials to come and investigate what has caused this,” Mr Winai added.
