Sub Lt Suwan Tuamsri from Krabi Tourist Police was called to investigate an incident at around midday yesterday where it had been reported by Liu Yingchang, a tour guide from the Alibaba Tour Company, that a Chinese tourist, named as Li Yuheng, 18, had suffered injuries to his left leg an right ankle when hit by the propeller of a speedboat engine.
Sub Lt Suwan said, “We received a call from a tour guide at around noon saying that a Chinese tourist had been injured by a speedboat engine propeller.
“The tour guide said there were 35 tourists on his tour including both children and adults. They had come from Rassada Pier in Phuket to visit Phi Phi Island,” he said.
“They had moored the boat to allow the tourists to swim, but when the time came from the group to leave, one of the speedboat’s crew, Naradon Tongdee, 20, started the engine and Mr Li swam towards the back of the boat and got hit by the propeller,” he added.
Mr Li is currently at Krabi Hospital being treated for his injuries, it is not yet know whether anyone involved in the incident will face legal charges
