Images of Liu Hung’s arrest went viral in China.

Liu Hung was tired of coming home to parents who were constantly disappointed at their son’s lack of female interaction, especially when other family members were already married or had girlfriends, according to Chinese papers.

This is why Hung, in a last-ditch effort to finally get a wife, waited in the bushes of a nearby park and kidnapped the first woman to walk past him. Hung allegedly bound the girls hands with rope and even taped her mouth shut.

Hung then allegedly took the victim back to his home in Dailang, in the north-eastern Chinese province of Liaoning. He told her they were to get married and he left to arrange the paperwork. The kidnapped woman, who was not named by police, was able to free one of her hands and call her boyfriend from Hung’s landline telephone. The boyfriend called police and the victim was traced back to the home.

Once Hung was on his way back with the wedding paperwork, he was arrested by police just outside the home.

“I am the only one in my family without a girlfriend or wife, and I was fed up of going home and simply getting a hard time,” Hung later told police.
