Chinese child and British tourist drown in Phuket

PHUKET: A 5-year-old Chinese boy drowned in a hotel pool incident in Karon yesterday (Oct 22), while a 43-year-old British tourist drowned at Karon Beach, police have confirmed.

Chalong Hospital at 6:32pm notified Karon Police of the drowning death of 5-year-old Chinese tourist Zhang Zhiqjanna.

Zhang had been swimming with his mother in a swimming pool at a hotel near the Karon Beachfront when he somehow lost consciousness and drowned.

Despite immediate CPR efforts by hotel staff and emergency personnel, Zhang was rushed to the hospital but could not be revived. Police have not described further details of the boy’s death.

Earlier yesterday, at around 4pm, a 43-year-old British tourist* was pulled unconscious from the water by a bystander.

He was taken to Chalong Hospital, but was unable to be revived.

Police said they were working with the relevant embassies concerning the two deaths.
