Jang Jeang, who also goes by the Thai name of Supachai Rujathon, has been a frequent visitor to the wat, and was accompanied by 15 friends who have also supported the wat with donations.

In August Jang Jeang was ordained as a monk at the wat with the name Phra Sookto.

At a ceremony to hand over the money, the friends all wore white with T-shirts inscribed “Jang Jeang: Richest in the Future.”

The donation came in the form of B30 million in cash and six rai of land valued at B4 million. The B30 million is to be put towards the construction of a chedi at the wat.

The abbot of Wat Jareonsamanakit, Phra Ajarn Jamras Jantachoto, said that Mr Jang and his group “have very strong faith” and have been donating constantly to the wat. Because of them, more believers have been coming to the wat from China and Malaysia, he added.

The donation ceremony was attended by Governor Maitri Inthusut.
