Pol Lt Col Kraisorn Boonprasop of the Thalang Police received a report of the accident at about 2:30am.
The crash occurred on Thepkrasattri Rd, on the northbound lanes in front of a self-service laundry near the Srisoonthorn Municipality office in Moo 8, Srisoonthorn.
Rescue workers from the Srisoonthorn Municipality rescue unit and officials from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation arrived at the scene to find a black-and-grey Honda Wave 110i motorcycle registered in Chiang Mai lodged beneath the rear of a parked trailer truck.
The rider, identified as Patimakan Kaewdee, 31, from Mae Rim District in Chiang Mai Province, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The trailer truck, registered in Phuket, was driven by 57-year-old Chatri Saejo.
Police said initial investigations found that Mr Chatri had been transporting goods from the Supercheap headquarters in Phuket to a branch in Krabi when he stopped the truck on the left side of the road and switched on the hazard lights before going into a nearby 7-Eleven store to buy food.
About five minutes later, Ms Patimakan’s motorcycle crashed into the rear of the truck, police said.
Forensic doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital conducted a preliminary examination at the scene before the body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police also requested a blood alcohol test for the deceased.
Mr Chatri underwent a breathalyser test, which returned a negative result. Police said the investigation is continuing and legal proceedings will follow as appropriate.
