“New traffic laws increase penalties for speeding and racing on the road,” the warning, shared earlier today (Nov 18), said.

The warning refers to increases in street racing penalties brought into effect on Sept 5 last year.

“Gathering in groups and mingling on the road or public places near the road with five or more vehicles is said to ‘attempt to race on the road’,” the warning continued.

The warning explained three distinct charges, and penalties, for people found involved with racing on public roads.

The key offences are organising a street race to be held and using modified/customised vehicles that are not legal.

However, the warning includes “any circumstance that shows that racing will be done”.

People found racing on public roads face up to three months in jail, or a fine of B5,000 to B10,000, or both.

People found organising street racing up to six months in jail or a fine of B10,000 to B20,000, or both.

People who modify vehicles for street racing face up to three months in jail or a fine of B5,000 to B10,000, or both.

“Drive safely and have traffic discipline. With love and care from the Royal Thai Police Office,” the warning concludes.
