The event on Sunday, Oct 29 is part of the National Sang Nam Jai Thai Project in honour of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen and will raise funds towards research into stroke and paralysis prevention.

The announcement was made at 3:30pm yesterday at Provincial Hall by Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew, who was joined by Vice Governors Anupap Rodkwan Yodrambam and Amnuay Pinsuwan, and Dr Kusak Loan Kiatkul from the Phuket Provincial Public Health office, in addition to selected government officials.

The event is being organised by Phuket authorities in cooperation with Siriraj Stroke Center, part of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital Mahidol University as part of the 9th Sang Nam Jai Thai Nation Project. In addition to raising much-needed funds for medical research the event also aims to raise awareness of the threat of stroke and paralysis while encouraging more exercise and healthy living among Thais.

The event is being held under the banner “No STROKE for all Thais by NEW GEN” and participants can elect to walk, run and cycle the route, further details of which will be released closer to the event.

The event will run from 5am to 9am on Sunday, Oct 29 at Bang Wad Dam and the entrance fee is B360 (which is tax deductable). Applications are open now until Aug 15 and can be made at: https://race.thai.run/wrb9phuket

Alternatively, applications can be made in person at the Non-Communicable Disease Control Group Mental Health and Drug Abuse office at the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office during official opening hours.

So far over 5,500 people have expressed interest to enter so it is advisable to enter sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment, officials said, although they did not state a number relating to a maximum number of entrants.
