Kathu Police were notified of the incident by the 191 emergency radio centre at about 5:55pm, after reports that a vehicle had caught fire at the Choti U-turn on Phra Phuket Kaew Rd, on the inbound carriageway in Kathu.
Investigating officer Pol Lt Col Akrapol Siwilai arrived at the scene to find a black Ford sedan bearing Phuket licence plate KhTh 8563 completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters responded quickly and were able to bring the fire under control, but the vehicle sustained extensive damage and was left undrivable.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Police conducted an initial examination of the scene and recorded evidence before coordinating with forensic officers to investigate the cause of the fire.
The cause of the blaze had not been determined at the time of reporting, and the investigation is continuing.
