In week 10 action, played last Thursday (Aug 2), it was Simon & Oil’s turn to face league leaders Caddy Shack in an away game, with the Caddy Shack also announcing the recruitment of top player Shaun who had just returned from a trip to the UK.
Shaun and Paul (also known as Elvy) both won their singles and doubles games for Caddy Shack and there was very little Simon & Oils could do against such a formidable force.
After losing the beerleg in two sets it was another significant win for Caddy Shack with the final score resting at 8-3.
Meanwhile, second placed Natalie Bar played at home to Kiki Sport Bar. William, a Dutch pool talent playing for Kiki Sports Bar, won his singles and doubles games as did Natalie and Oh playing for the home team.
It was a closely-fought game until the very end but with Natalie winning the beerleg in three sets gave them a much-needed 7-5 win.
Elsewhere, Red Light Bar took on Martin Swiss in a game that was in fact played on July 29 so that Martin and Pom could enjoy their annual trip to Hua Hin. This also meant that Scott, who was visiting from Chock Chai, was able to lend Red Light a helping hand.
As usual Scott got lucky and managed to snooker Teacher Tak, who was moonlighting for Martin Swiss, five times. He also managed to win his singles game. However, Tak got his revenge in the doubles.
Ae playing for Martin Swiss won her singles and doubles games as did Tony and Tum playing for Red Light.
It was a close call but after a three-setter beerleg Red Light walked away with a 5-7 victory.
Happy End played away against Wombat bar and Teacher Tak and Chris from Belgium won their singles and doubles games for Happy End but so did Kob and Frank playing for Wombat.
Wombat and Happy End are usually of equal caliber and the games are always very close, and this game was no different with Happy End leading by one point going in to the beerleg.
Tak done a great pot on the black in the beerleg but unfortunately the white ball had so much speed it went down too. Lets just say Tak went from hero to loser in less than two seconds.
In the second round of the beerleg Happy End lost their happiness and had to give in and not only lost the beerleg but also the match with the final score being 5-6 to Wombat.
Finally, Ting Tong was playing at home against Genius. Ting Tong’s Nick and Lollipop both won their singles and doubles games and helped their team on their way to a comfortable 8-3 win.
Following the game, Ting Tong Bar’s owner Paul posted the following message on the Patong Friendly Pool League Facebook page, “Tonight's result ting tong v genius great night funny games can't believe how many players hit the black ball and didn't go in not just my team genius as well what a good game i think ting tong now understand its for fun thanks to Tommy and the team great night cheers guys and girls very funny see you all soon.”
This just goes to show that the PPL is truly a friendly league and it is all about having a great evening together even when you lose your game.
The eleventh round of the Patong Pool League will be played this Thursday ( Aug 9) and people interested in playing as well as visitors are all welcome to attend at one of the 11 participating bars. You can also visit their Patong Friendly Pool League Facebook page.
