Bus driver arrested with meth at Tha Chatchai checkpoint

PHUKET: A bus driver has been arrested after police seized more than 12 grammes of crystal meth (ya ice) hidden inside a vehicle at the island’s main checkpoint.

Officers at the Tha Chatchai Police Station checkpoint intercepted the bus at 11am on Thursday (Apr 16) as part of intensified inspections on the last day of the Songkran national road safety campaign.

The operation was conducted under the direction of Pol Col Khundech Na Nongkhai, Superintendent of Tha Chatchai Police Station, with a team led by Pol Lt Col Ratchaphas Buakaew, Deputy Superintendent, and Pol Lt Col Somkiat Wanate, Inspector, along with checkpoint officers.

During the inspection, officers discovered 12.185g of ya ice concealed inside the bus. The driver, a 45-year-old man, not named by police, was taken into custody at the scene.

Police confirmed the driver has been charged with possession of a Category 1 narcotic. He was informed of his rights before being handed over, along with the seized drugs, to investigators for further legal proceedings.
