Buongiorno from the Italian Ambassador

Republic Day in Italy, also known as Festa della Repubblica in Italian, is a national holiday in Italy on June 2 each year. It commemorates the day when Italians voted to abolish the monarchy in 1946 so their country could become a republic.

It is usually a day off work for many people in Italy. Events include official ceremonies; military parades; and laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, inside the Altare della Patria in Rome.

Outside of Italy, many Italian diplomats in embassies worldwide celebrate this day.

This year, H.E. Francesco Saverio Nisio, the Ambassador of Italy in Bangkok, has written a special message dedicated to all Italian expats and tourists across Thailand.

“EXPO Milan 2015 started last May 1 under the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” and it is scheduled to attract more than 20 million visitors by its closing day on October 31.

“EXPO Milan 2015 is one of the most important international events of the year: 150 Countries and International Institutions represented; 53 national self-built Pavilions; 8 Cluster Pavilions dedicated to specific themes: rice, cocoa and chocolate, fruits and legumes, spices, cereals and tubers, bio-mediterraneum, islands and arid zones; 8 corporate Pavilions; about 150 restaurants; open air activities; shows, concerts and cultural events.

“EXPO Milan 2015 runs through spring and summertime in Italy.

In Milan and all over Italy there will be special features and opportunities for tourists and business people.

“I seize the occasion of the National Day of Italy to remind Thai Friends that Thailand is represented with its national self-built magnificent Pavilion.”
