Police were called to the fire at about 4:30am at a house in Soi Baan Nanai, Moo 7, Thepkrasattri.
Pol Lt Col. Thanyapisit Muangchan, an investigating officer at Thalang Police Station, responded to the scene after receiving the report through the police radio centre. Thalang Police chief Pol Col Nikorn Chuthong also attended.
Firefighters deployed two fire engines and were able to bring the blaze under control after it spread from the original house to two neighbouring properties.
The house where the fire began sustained extensive damage, with household belongings destroyed, while the two adjacent homes suffered only minor damage.
Police confirmed there were no injuries or fatalities. At the time of the fire, three to four people were inside the affected house, while two people were in each of the neighbouring homes.
A resident of the house where the fire started, identified as Penpisut Sorthai, told police she had woken to take a shower when she noticed the electricity had gone out. She then saw smoke coming from the rear of the house and immediately alerted firefighters and police.
The homeowner, identified only as ‘Siri’, told officers he believed his brother, who he claimed was hallucinating after taking drugs, had started the fire.
Police stressed that this was only an initial allegation made during questioning and has not been confirmed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Officers have coordinated with the Phuket Provincial Forensic Science Unit to examine the scene and determine the cause of the blaze.
Police said the investigation is continuing and that any legal action will depend on the findings of the forensic examination.
