British tourist Robert Anderson, 62, was left in a daze after a clash with a Thai man opposite the New York bar on Bangla Rd caused him physical harm.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanapat Rungruangsakorn from Patong police station was alerted to Mr Anderson’s plight around 8:30am yesterday before reporting the incident to Pol. Col. Chalermchai Hirsawat, superintendent of Patong Police Station.
Pol Col Chalermchai then advanced to the scene where he was joined by officials from the Phuket Kusoldharm Foundation.
Mr Anderson was discovered in front of the Burger King fast food restaurant on Bangla Rd requiring medical attention, which medical officers duly administered. While photographs from the scene clearly show Mr Anderson with cuts to his head and legs, official police reports did not specify the details of his injuries.
From initial questioning it appeared that Mr Anderson had a problem with 27-year-old Thai man Kittipong Chantawong, who was also at the scene when police arrived. Once again, however, the official police report made no specific mention of the problem that led to the altercation between the two men.
Mr Anderson was taken to Patong Hospital for further medical care, while Mr Kittipong was taken to Patong police station for further questioning so as officers can understand what exactly happened and whether any charges should be made.
