British tourist found dead in hotel room

PHUKET: Police are investigating the death of a 48-year-old British man whose body was found in a hotel room in Cherng Talay yesterday (June 22).

Cherng Talay Police were called to the hotel, in Soi Cherng Talay 14, at 4:30pm.

The deceased was found lying on his back on the bed, wearing grey boxer shorts, with both hands clenched tightly.

Initial investigations revealed no signs of physical harm on the body. A white powder, suspected to be drugs, was found in the room. However, the man was believed to had been in recovery.

CCTV footage showed that the man, from Bournemouth, had entered and exited the room alone, with no other individuals seen entering.

The body was transported to Vachira Phuket Hospital for medical examination to determine the cause of death.

Authorities have contacted the British embassy to notify the deceased’s relatives and to arrange for the body to be returned for religious services.
