Kamala Police were alerted to the situation at 1:10am yesterday (Apr 22) after a tourist was seen driving a car on the beachfront sidewalk and then having the car stuck in sand at the beach.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the 26-year-old British tourist still trying to get the car, a white Toyota Fortuner registered in Krabi, free from the sand.

The tourist had arrived from Krabi Province and was staying in the Kamala area, police explained.

The tourist said that he was driving along the narrow beachfront pathway when in the dark when it started raining, causing him to accidentally drive the car off the path.

He had tried to free the car from the sand, but to no avail.

Officers arranged for the car to be recovered, and fined the tourist under the Section 43 (4) (7) of the Land Traffic Act, which makes it illegal to operate a vehicle which may cause danger to other persons or property.
