Staff of Thalang Hospital informed Pol Lt Col Patthipat Yodkhwan, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation) at Thalang Police, of the incident at 4:10am.
Due to the nature of the incident, Thalang Police Chief Pol Col Nikorn Chuthong was informed of the report.
Officers arrived at the scene to find the body of the man* on the ground in front of the hospital staff dormitory.
The man was admitted to hospital at 8:50am on Saturday (Dec 16) for treatment of multiple self-inflicted cuts on his arms and legs with a knife, hospital staff explained.
The man had repeatedly slashed at his wrists and ankles. He had received 34 stitches to close his wounds and was recovering in a room on the ground floor, where he was presumed to still be until hospital staff found his body on the ground outside early today.
From their preliminary assumption, police believe the man walked out of his recovery room to the hospital staff dormitory building, where he walked up to the fourth floor and jumped.
A post-mortem examination is to be conducted on the man’s body and the British Embassy in Bangkok is to be notified of the incident so they can inform the man’s family, police said.
* The Phuket News is withholding the man’s name until it has been confirmed that his next of kin have been notified.
