Patong Police were called to the scene, on the downhill slope just past the Tiger Temple Shrine heading towards Patong, at about 2:14pm.
Traffic police, Patong firefighters and volunteers from the Kusoldharm Foundation rushed to the scene to find a motorcycle engulfed in flames.
The fire was quickly doused, but by that time the motorbike had been destroyed.
The rider, British national Kevin Kelly, had been riding down Phra Baramee Rd from Kathu towards Patong Beach when he lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to skid, police said.
The motorbike skidding across the road surface caused the bike to ignite due to friction with the road, police added.
Mr Kelly sustained only minor injuries in the incident, police confirmed.
The damaged motorcycle was taken to Patong Police Station, where Mr Kelly was requested to come to give his official statement of the accident.
