Boy, 16, found drowned in Baan Maruan pond

PHUKET: The body of a 16-year-old boy who disappeared while swimming in Bang Maruan Pond, in Moo 8, Srisoonthorn, yesterday (Dec 5) has been recovered.

Rescue workers reported recovering the body of Warut Butleb, a Mathayom 3 student at Rajaprajanugroh School 36 in Kamala, at 9:05pm last night.

Pol Lt Col Yuttaphon Watthaseth of the Thalang Police was informed that the body had been found.

The search for Warut, who lived in nearby Moo 4 Srisoonthorn, had lasted seven hours after Warut and his friend, 10-year-old Myanmar boy ‘Ngae’. went swimming in the pond yesterday afternoon.

The alarm was raised at about 3:25pm after local resident Wanatjarong Chokthianwit had jumped in the pond and managed to rescue Ngae.

Srisoonthorn Municipality rescue workers took him to Thalang Hospital, and he is in safe condition.

The search for Warut, who lived in nearby Moo 4, Srisoonthorn, continued, with Thalang Police Deputy Superintendent Pol Lt Col Patthi Yodkwan and Srisoonthorn Mayor Chalermpol Kerdsup at the scene.

Once brought ashore, Warut’s body was identified by his mother and examined at the scene by forensic doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital.

His body was taken to Thalang Hospital to confirm the exact cause of death before officials can release it for his family to hold his funeral.
