The Internal Security Operations Command said that “people with ill intention” bombed 11 petrol stations. The fires were being brought under control, reports the Bangkok Post.

Five of the bombs exploded in Narathiwat province - in Cho Airong, Chanae, Rangae, Waeng and Sungai Kolok districts - two in Pattani - in Muang and Kapho districts - and four in Kabang, Bannang Sata and Muang districts of Yala.

The Cho Airong outlet had been open only a few months.

Authorities cordoned off the area around the bombed facilities for close examination and investigation, and stepped up security measures in the region.

People in the region were advised avoid petrol stations for the time being.
