Pol Lt Thaworn Thongkham of Khok Kloi Police was notified that a person had jumped from the Thao Thepkrasattri Bridge at about 5:04am.
As the man had jumped from the bridge 50 metres north of the halfway point across the bridge, the incident became the responsibility of Khok Kloi Police.
Officers arrived on the bridge to find a Yamaha Nouvo registered in Phuket parked in the emergency lane. The key was still in the ignition.
In the compartment under the seat officers found a mobile phone and a wallet containing an ID card issued for Jirasak Chaturong, 43, registered as living in Moo 4, Wichit. A pair of red flip-flops were nearby
The motorbike was taken to Khok Kloi Police Station and officers contacted relatives of Mr Jirasak were informed of the situation.
A search was launched, and local fishermen were asked to keep watch for Mr Jirasak in the water.
Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation rescue workers found his body in the water near the Phang Nga side of the Chong Pak Phra Channel, which separates Phuket from the mainland, at about midday.
The body was brought ashore and taken for post-mortem examination as a prerequisite before releasing the body to relatives.
