Friends of the man, named as 22-year-old Joe Ye Bai, reportedly him missing at around 6:30 pm yesterday and said that he had been swept away by waves whilst swimming at the beach.
Phuket Lifeguard Club (PLC) President Prathaiyut Chuayuan told The Phuket News, “The incident happened after 6pm when the lifeguards are no longer on duty. If people decide to go into the water late in the evening there is no one there to help them should they need it.
“Should people want to stay on the beach during the evening it is best not to swim or play in the water,” he said.
