Body of missing Myanmar fisherman found off Patong coast

PHUKET: The body of a Myanmar man who had been missing for several days after going fishing off Patong was discovered floating in the sea near Paradise Beach on Friday afternoon (June 5).

Police were notified of the discovery at about 5:45pm after people on a boat spotted a body floating in the water off Paradise Beach in Patong and alerted rescue workers.

According to those who discovered the body, they noticed the deceased floating in the water and immediately notified rescue workers, who then brought the body ashore.

Patong Police investigator Lt Narind Bilson responded to the scene, where the deceased was identified as 30-year-old Myanmar national Min Min.

Initial investigations found that Mr Min Min had gone fishing near the Coral Beach Pier at about 10am on Tuesday (June 2). He was later reported missing after failing to return.

The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear.

Police, together with forensic doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital, conducted a preliminary examination at the scene. However, the exact cause of death could not be determined.

Mr Min Min’s body was subsequently transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full autopsy to establish the precise cause of death.

Patong Police are continuing their investigation and will proceed with further action once the autopsy results are available.
