Pol Lt Yanaphat Malai of the Phuket City Police was notified by the 191 call centre at 10:30am that a body had been found next to the ‘Khun Lert’ patrol booth at the intersection of Montri Rd and Phang Nga Rd.

Lt Yanaphat soon arrived at the scene, accompanied by Phuket City Police Deputy Chiefs Pol Lt Col Chatchai Chunu and Pol Lt Col Somporn Rangsimanrat, along with first responders from the Kusoldharm Foundation.

The lifeless man was dressed in an orange round-neck T-shirt and long blue sweatpants. Police noted a dark green contusion on his right eye. No identification documents were found.

Police later identified the man as ‘Mr Sangthong’, who was believed to have been “about 30-40 years old”. Officers believe Mr Sangthong died about two hours before his body was found.

A person near the police box when police arrived said that Mr Sangthong went on a “drunken rampage” ay Wat Kosit Wiharn, on Thepkrasattri Rd, earlier this morning.

Police officers on patrol picked him up and brought him back to the police box to calm him down. The person had no more information about Mr Sangthong after the officers brought him back.

Mr Sangthong’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in the hope of determining the cause of death while police continue their investigation.
