Local residents informed Watcharathorn Kamlangkuea, village headman of Moo 3 in Sakoo, at 8:05am today (Aug 1) that they had spotted a body floating in the sea near the Sakoo Police Station.

Lifeguards already at the beach were first at the scene and entered the water to recover the body, which was later confirmed by parents as that of young Supat.

Supat, a student at Wat Mongkolwararam School, was one of six friends playing in the shore break at Nai Yang Beach on Monday when they were overpowered by big waves and started being dragged away from the beach.

The boys were playing in knee-deep water when they were overpowered by the strong waves.

Two of the five other boys were rescued by a local surfer, Norwegian national Terje Tonnessen, 37. The other three scrambled to shore by themselves. (See story here.)

Supat’s body has been taken to Thalang Hospital and will be handed over to his family so that they may hold a funeral for their child.
