The unofficial vote result dashboard of the EC reported the results after 94% of ballots was counted at 3:57am this morning (Feb 9). There are 400 House seats for constituency Mps, reports the Bangkok Post.

The Klatham Party came fourth with 56 House seats for constituency MPs. Fifth was the Democrat Party with 10 House seats for constituency MPs.

The People’s Party won all 33 seats in Bangkok, all eight seats in Nonthaburi immediately north of Bangkok and seven out of eight seats in Samut Prakan immediately south of Bangkok. Bhumjaithai won the eighth seat in Samut Prakan.

Pheu Thai lost in all 10 constituencies of Chiang Mai province, which had long been its political stronghold.

In the parly-list contest for 100 House seats the People’s Party emerged on top with 9.73 million votes, followed by 5.93mn votes for Bhumjaithai, 5.13mn for Pheu Thai and 3.63mn for the Democrats.

When estimations of both constituency and list MP results are combined, Bhumjaithai is likely to have 194 House seats, followed by the People’s Party with 116 and Pheu Thai 76. Analysts expected Bhumjaithai to form the next coalition with Klatham. The two parties were coalition partners in the previous government.

The Feb 8 general election also included a referendum on whether there should be a new constitution. A majority of 60%, or 19.86mn voters, wanted a new charter while 10.48mn voters (32%) voted against it. About 2.88mn voters had no opinion.

Voter turnout on Sunday was about 64%.

In the 2023 general election, the People’s Party in its previous incarnation as the Move Forward Party won 151 House seats, followed by Pheu Thai with 141 and Bhumjaithai with 71 seats.
