The Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center Region 3 (Thai MECC 3) said it received a distress call at around 5:45pm from the vessel ‘L. Thanakorn’, which was located approximately 7.3 nautical miles south of Cape Panwa at the time of the incident.
According to the report, the explosion left a crew member with injuries to the arms and torso, although the victim remained conscious and was able to communicate with rescuers. The crew urgently requested medical assistance.
Thai MECC 3 instructed the trawler to return to the Third Area Command pier at Cape Panwa, while coordinating with rescue workers to prepare for the patient’s arrival. Port security officials were also deployed to assist at the scene.
The injured crew member arrived at the pier at approximately 7:15pm, where emergency personnel provided first aid before transporting the victim to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment.
Officials have not yet released details about the cause of the battery explosion.
